ABOUT US
Aldebrain was formed for the purpose of providing support services and housing for adults who are physically disabled and for families that need accessible housing in a community environment. We believe that people with disabilities have the right to live independently within the community in their own homes. Aldebrain accomplish this by providing support services and housing in family and individual sized apartments.
HISTORY
Aldebrain is a registered charitable organization that was founded in 1984 by a group mainly comprised of physically disabled adult students from York University. Together they moved forward with the aim of providing support services for disabled persons in a family setting. After submitting several proposals to the Ministry of Housing, Aldebrain finally was granted an allocation in 1991.
Aldebrain Tower is a 12 floor building and was ready for occupancy in June of 1993. The site was chosen by the founding group because of its access to nearby amenities such as public transit and shopping facilities.
OUR PURPOSE
Aldebrain’s purpose is to provide support services and housing for people with a disability, in a family and individual setting. Aldebrain believes it is necessary for people with disabilities to provide input into the design of the building. Aldebrain believes that all phases of the building’s architecture and design require tenant control.
Aldebrain further believes it is vital to have full integration and interaction for all tenants who live here. Aldebrain will demonstrate that community co-operation will provide a quality of life only achievable through neighbour helping neighbour.
